Where The Image Becomes Invocation

I’ve always been drawn to images that feel constructed with intention, as if they are not only seen but activated. In my work, symbols of summoning are not narrative elements. They form a visual system that suggests calling, gathering, or focusing energy. The image does not represent an event. It operates as a condition. What interests me most is how an artwork can feel like an invocation rather than a depiction.

The Circle As Contained Energy

Circular structures appear frequently in my work. Rings, halos, and enclosed forms create boundaries that hold energy in place. The circle is not decorative. It defines a field. Historically, circular forms have been associated with ritual space and protection, but I approach them as a way to contain visual force. The image begins to organise itself around this structure.

Repetition As Activation

Repetition plays a central role in building intensity. Dots, lines, and mirrored elements accumulate across the surface. This is not pattern for decoration, but for activation. The more an element repeats, the more it shifts from form into rhythm. I’ve always been interested in how repetition can create a sense of build-up without movement. In my work, repetition becomes a method of concentration.

The Body As Conduit

The figure in my work does not act, but channels. The body appears still, frontal, and open to surrounding structures. It does not dominate the image, but connects it. This reflects a shift from identity to function. The figure becomes a point through which the system operates. I’ve always been interested in how presence can exist without action.

Eyes And Directed Attention

Eyes are often central and emphasized. They anchor the image and direct attention inward. In some works, they appear multiplied or extended beyond the face, creating a sense of expanded perception. This transforms the image from something observed into something that observes back. I use this to shift the balance between viewer and artwork.

Light As Manifesting Force

Light in these compositions is controlled and precise. It appears as small concentrated areas rather than full illumination. These points act as focal zones where presence becomes visible. I’ve always been interested in how minimal light can create maximum tension. It does not reveal everything. It marks where something emerges.

When Presence Becomes System

At a certain point, the image is no longer defined by individual symbols. Circle, repetition, body, eyes, and light form a unified system. I’ve come to recognise that this is where the sense of otherworldly presence appears — not through illustration, but through structure. In my work, I don’t depict summoning. I construct the conditions for it. Symbols of summoning in art and the presence of otherworldly energy exist in this state, where the image feels active rather than passive.
