March Symbols, Colours, and Meaning in Art Prints & Posters

March is a liminal month — not fully winter, not yet spring. It's a moment of quiet transition, where nature starts to stir and stretch, and so do we. As an artist, I’ve always been fascinated by this threshold: the pull between the intuitive, emotional world of Pisces and the fiery spark of Aries. It’s a month full of watery depth and brave beginnings. And that duality makes it incredibly rich for visual storytelling.

March’s Colour: Aquamarine & Watery Light

The primary colour of March is aquamarine, both a gemstone and a hue. I see aquamarine as water made solid — it holds the transparency of truth, the coolness of reflection, and the shifting blues of the sea. In my mixed media practice, I often use light blue washes and flowing lines to suggest that same sense of gentle movement and mental clarity.

Aquamarine is also associated with throat chakra energy — with speaking one’s truth calmly and clearly. It reminds us that communication doesn’t always need to be loud to be powerful.

Birth Flower: Daffodil — Symbol of Rebirth

March’s flower is the daffodil, one of the first blooms to break through the soil at winter’s end. It stands for rebirth, hope, and unapologetic brightness. What I love about daffodils is how fearless they are: pushing through frost, opening their faces to uncertain skies. They remind us that blooming doesn’t wait for perfect conditions.

I often incorporate blooming forms — not always daffodils literally, but petals, bursts, unfurlings — in my work to symbolise this resilient emergence. It’s about having the courage to be seen in your growth, even when things still feel tender.

Zodiac Energy: Pisces to Aries

The astrological arc of March begins in Pisces — emotional, intuitive, dreamy — and ends in Aries, which is bold, assertive, and fiery. I find this shift fascinating as an artist: we move from watery depth to flame.

This is the month where fantasy begins to translate into action. Where sensitivity finds voice. Where inner stirrings demand outward change. Pisces brings the dream; Aries brings the push. Together, they form a powerful alchemy.

In my portrait series like "Just a Phase" or "Me, Myself & I", I try to capture that feeling of emotional duality — of being more than one thing at once. That’s very March to me.

Symbolic Meaning: Emotional Clarity & New Chapters

To me, March is the month of emotional clarity. Not always comfort — but truth. It’s the moment when the fog of winter starts to lift and you can finally see what’s grown underneath.

This can be unsettling. But it can also be liberating. The clarity that arrives in March often shows up in small, symbolic ways: a decision made quietly, a feeling named for the first time, a window cracked open after months closed. These themes show up often in my work, especially in quieter pieces like "Sensibility".

Decor Tip: How to Style March-Inspired Art

When choosing art for your home that captures March energy, think of:

  • Soft blues and pale greens to bring a feeling of calm or transition.

  • Floral or water motifs to symbolise growth, reflection, or rebirth.

  • Layered, mixed media textures that reflect emotional complexity.

These kinds of prints work well in bedrooms, hallways, or reading corners — anywhere you want to invite stillness, honesty, or gentle transformation.

March is not a loud month. But it’s an important one. It teaches us how to be brave in softness, how to bloom without certainty, how to move gently but firmly toward change.

As always, I try to reflect that in my work — not just visually, but emotionally. Because sometimes, the quietest months leave the deepest marks.
